Ride4United Way 2017 Writeup

This year a handful of our North Shore Amateur Radio Club members came to support the United Way again at their Ride4UnitedWay. Although there were a few ups-and-downs on route due to last minute summer construction and a misunderstanding of signage, we generally had a great day with great weather (after weeks of rain before the ride!). We had an issue of our 160km sweepers going off of the radar right at the last portion of the course, but our wonderful team at net control worked diligently and were able to track them down quickly and without much trouble.

VE3OSH, our 2 meter club repeater, worked flawless throughout the day and we gave it a good workout!

Larry, VA3FHG, was proud of our groups efforts and gave some feedback after the event. Addressing that every one of our members “… did good work on carrying on the tradition of the NSARC of using our hobby, for the betterment of our community.” Larry thanks everyone for their efforts during the day and is confident that our club will be happy to help in future rides.

Jeanette (or JP as she is known throughout Ride4UnitedWay day), a representative of United Way that works with our net control team, forwarded a message to Larry to pass along to the club. “My huge THANKS to your members who came out and manned/drove the roads or the checkpoints. They continue to make it so much easier for us at Net Control… and of course, a big thanks to Laird who was stuck with me most of the day!” said JP.

Great work and see you all next year!
