Tall Pines Road Rally - 2008

This is not an event that is specific to the North Shore ARC but several of our members attend and volunteer annually.  They have a great time helping out with the radio communications and provide a safety net for the participants of the race.  This group of hams have become known as the Monck Lake Crew and the Tall Pines organizing team can count on them to provide superb communications on the Iron Bridge and Peanut stages of the Rally of the Tall Pines.

2008 was another great event.  The weather was cold, dipping down close to 5F, but a good time was had by all in attendance.

Special thanks to Joe, VE3VGJ, who graciously opened up his cottage, aka "The Stratton Lodge" to his fellow members of the Monck Lake Crew.

Thanks also to Deb, Steve, and Ben who graciously opened their house to me (Laird, VE3LKS) between race stages to use the facilities, have a steaming hot cup of coffee, and enjoy great conversation while warming up by the fire.  This sort of makes the other guys jealous as most of them are placed out in the back woods and are lucky if they can find a fallen tree, if you know what I mean.  Yes, I will be back at my Iron Bridge location again next year.

The big numbers are Fahrenheit!

What do we do when it is only 5F outside?  Why we pull out the lawn chairs and enjoy a rip roaring fire!

Yes, sometimes the buns have to be toasted.
